33month old problems!!!
« on: January 03, 2008, 13:09:14 pm »
Hi,

Our DS is 33 months.  I'm having lots of problems with his eating.  This is his normal eating routine:

Breakfast - Porridge (great!)
Lunch - Toasted raisin bread, crisps
Dinner - Anything with mashed potato.  Sometimes, he'll eat a little bit of meat.

At the moment he is having the most massive tantrums if he can't eat sweets/biscuits/lollipops in between meals.  He refuses to eat fruit and veg.  The only way I can get him to eat vegetables is if I mash a tiny bit up with his potato.  Meats - he'll eat some sausages, fish fingers, those frozen chicken shapes.  He will eat a tiny bit of a sandwich for lunch, but then I end up doing his favourite raisin bread!

He is a healthy little boy and isn't underweight, I'm just so worried that he isn't getting the right vitamins and nutrients. (I do give a mulit-vit in his drink)

I'm 10 weeks pregnant so am very tired at the moment and I find it easier to give in to him, which I know is wrong.

I would keep doing what you are doing just now, mashing veg into the potato. Cauliflower is a good one to mash into potatos.

Also, can you make vegetable sauces for him to dip the sausages and fish fingers or whatever in? That often works, too.

One other thing to REALLY make life easier is to ONLY buy things that you definitely want him to eat and that he can choose from and you are happy with his choice. Cut out the sweets and offer nicely cut fruit instead, sometimes it helps to make it look fun. Will he eat fruit when can help prepare it?

Thanks,

I'll try the vegetable sauce, but I don't hold out much hope!

He just won't eat anything new.  He loves peeling satsumas, but throws the insides away!  I'm really at my wits end as to know what to do!

How about cooked and pureed apple in the porridge in the morning? It's the only way I can get that stuff down  my throat :-X
