Quick question
« on: January 05, 2008, 20:04:22 pm »
Abbie nearly 11 weeks and is pretty much following a 3 hour EASY routine, and her naps are consistent, sometimes more, leading us up to the 4 hour mark to eat.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is, by the end of the day, even though her naps are so great, she is really tired.  I was wondering if it would be wrong to feed her directly after her catnap and then have a bit of A time.  Reason being, by the time the she actually has this feed, she is too tired to feed and usually only has about 1-2oz.  That last 45 mins of A time really seems to take it out of her.

Paula,
I think the answer is, no it would not be wrong, but post your routine so I can be sure.

I always fed Claire after her cat nap and called it a cluster feed.

Well our routine usually goes something like this.  Sometimes naps are longer and we extend to a 4 hour, but generally we stick to 3 hour.

E -7:00
A - up till 8:15
S - up till 10:00

E - 10:00
A - up till 11:30
S - up till 1:00

E - 1:00
A - up till 2:30
S - up till 4:00

E - 4:00
A - up till 5:15ish
S - up till 6:00

However, when it comes time to feed her at 7:00 she is usually too tired, so would it be ok to feed her at 6:00, bath and then pop straight into bed?

I would try it.  If she is really tired then she will sleep.  You don't want overtired.  I am assuming that you are still feeding overnight, right?
There is a routine, I think in Solves Your Problems, that has the baby go down for a cat nap only to wake feed and go right back to sleep.  Do you have that book?  I will try to look for it today.

Nope she sleeps through the night - has done since she was about 5 weeks old  ;D  We are having a few early wakings due to bad feeds due to her reflux, but is still sleeping through the night.

I do have that book, will have a look to see if I can find the routine.

Thanks for your help  :-*

Paula,

we are having same issues here.  Even thought naps are now good, Callie is still OT by bedtime and we over the last week we have had meltdowns at bedtime.

I struggle with the catnap as she REFUSES to take it  ::)  but if I put her down at 645ish she will wake an hour later for a feed.  At the moment I am going with it and just calling the 645 sleep the catnap  :)

Off to check out BWSAYPs

Hi Nic  ;D

That actually sounds like a plan too.  Am going to look at the routine in the book first and see how that goes, and then take it from there.

Me too, maybe catch up with you on MSN later.

That's Callie just down and refused to feed totally.

Paula, as Abbie is going right thru the night I think you should just go ahead and pop her right down.  If she starts to wake early or thru the night then you can readjust.

Me too  ;)

Just looked at the book and it gives an example for a 4 week old baby that sounds similar.  Page 24. Basically that catnap round 7ish then Y time for us then a second cluster feed (which would be Callie's first) about an hour later then no A time, straight back to bed.

Hope tonight went well

Feed went quite well considering she was sooo OT as she missed her nap while at the docs.

How did you get on?
