i guess i'm doing a modified 4.5 hour easy... he's a big boy though so can handle it (+18 pounds) & he's on solids & he still drinks both breasts at each sitting (each boob has 2+ letdowns as well) but i DO modify based on length of naps. afternoon nap for example is usually 1.5 hours instead of 2 so we're pretty much back on track after that nap

well i kept her up 2.5 hours this morning which really wasn't a problem, but then her nap was 35 minutes and she SCREAMED when she woke up....i tried for 15 minutes to get her back down, which would usually work in that time, with no success.  so i fed her, and she did feed for 15 minutes so i think she was hungry.  then i put her back to bed because she was rubbing her eyes and cranky...another 35 minutes only.

the second A time has now been 2 hours 10 minutes, but i fed her again off schedule because i figured if i put her down now she's going to wake up in 1/2 hour to eat.  so now she's going to sleep, went down quite easily.  hopefully she'll have a good nap...i know she won't wake up early due to hunger anyway.

so we're totally off schedule today  :-\

i'm having trouble too because she's lost weight so i have to feed her more and i'm doubting my milk supply... i don't want to make her go hungry  :-[  so i'm a big mess.

Brenda - sorry to hear you are having a rough time!  It  must be really hard with trying to move as well.

35 min naps would suggest OT and/or overstimulated - so maybe she wasn't quite ready for 2.5hrs, or maybe she was still a bit OT from missing a nap the day before. After a short nap you would want to keep A times much lower - eg 1.5hrs or whateve feels right according to her cues, as you did so, so that you don't get her even more OT  I would go back to shorter A times until you are sure she is not OT and then try extending 5 mins every few days to see how you get on.

In answer to your earlier Q in general I agree with Fawndoe- I would generally wake at 1.5hrs to keep the feeds 4-hourly,  but if you think she needs the sleep you would go to 2hrs and feed after 4.5hrs. You tend to find that by the end of the day it all works out if you tweak the length of naps a bit!

thanks for the support girls  :)

i'm really confused...

so after yesterday with the longer A times but short naps in the morning, she did have 1 long nap (2.5 hours) in the afternoon and then we skipped the catnap because she woke up late from the second nap.  which i know was all screwed up but i thought what the heck it can't make things be any  worse at night than it's been so lets see what happens.  :P

and last night she went down at 7:10 no problem, dreamfeed at 10, and she woke up at 3 to eat and then slept through until 7:30.  so the best night we've had in a week!

so what gives?    ???  i'm sure she was OT because of the 35 minute naps yesterday morning and really long A time  in the afternoon, but it worked out well last night.  so i don't know what i should be trying to do for her for naps during the day, it seems contrary to all advice.

sooo confused....  ???

what do you think?

So what time did that afternoon nap end up being yesterday? I am wondering if she got on top of the OT with that nice long nap?

she had 2 x 35 min naps in the morning (only 30 min A time between which was mostly me trying to get her back down), then 2 hours 10 min A time then the afternoon nap went 2 - 4:30 and then she was asleep by 7:10.  she wasn't fussy in the evening...she didn't seem OT

i think the advice of doing longer A times is good, just having trouble getting her to do a long morning nap.  but maybe i have to stick it out a few days and then maybe she'll catch on?

i am cautiously writing this...i hope i don't jinx myself

so we've had 4 good nights in a row, and 7 out of the last 10 nights have been good (only getting up once).  so maybe we've turned a corner and figured some things out!  i've changed 3 things and i think it's working...this is what we've done:

1) weaned soother...it's been 2 weeks.  i think it's licked.  she goes down no problem for naps and night and no more mutiple wakings at night.  she loves her bear and cuddles up with it the minute she goes into the crib (so cute!)

2) started her on food and supplementing with formula.  some gas but it doesn't seem to bother her.  she seems happier and less hungry.

3) increased A time to 2.2 + hours and dropped the catnap.  so she's doing 2 long (1.5 to 2.5 hour) naps a day and has a longer A time before bed.  the first day i did this the naps were miserable but she seems to have caught on now (fingers crossed).

still doing the dreamfeed and i've been getting up once overnight to feed but other than that no wakings (that require me to get up)  ;D  ;D  ;D

we leave for hawaii on wednesday   8)  so hopefully all the work i've done the last month will help her sleep while there and not keep the whole house up.  i hope i'm not back on these boards in a month trying to get back on track  ;)

thanks bryony and fawndoe for all the support, you both have really helped me to figure things out  :-*  it's so nice to see avery be happy when she wakes up, and the happy little girl that she is when awake  :)
