10 month old only 2 hours A time?
« on: January 09, 2008, 14:09:44 pm »
Hi
My 10 month old wakes at 7 and goes down for his first nap at 9, no later or he is overtired. I don't mind this but lately he has been having night wakings (like every hour all night long) and I have read that taking the morning nap too early can result in night wakings. Is this true? I just tried to put him down 20 minutes later than usual and it was a fuss. Also, many other babies that I have read about on this sight have 3.5 hours of A time before going down for their first naps.

2hrs does seem a little short as my little fellow can do 2-2.5 hrs and he's 6 mos.  I found that when I want to extend the A time without the OT, is to do an extra long windown.  For example, if the windown down is usually 5 min long then add 5-10min for a few days and then add another 5-10 min until you get the time you want.  Or you might want to take a short walk around the block before the nap.  DD never falls asleep in the stroller when she was little so it was a great way for me to extend her A during the warm weather.  And it was a life saver when she went through the nap dropping phases.  HTH

At 10 months my DD was still only awake for 2 hours.  Even now at 13 months she is only awake most days for 2.5 hours in the morning.  Once in a while longer, but she sometimes gets cranky for her nap only 1.5 hours after she wakes!  I just go with whatever she seems to need.
