Starting dairy for MSPI and lactose intolerant.
« on: January 15, 2008, 04:02:01 am »
Hi,
My DS is MSPI and lactose intolerant (Or I hope was).

He just turned 12 months and I'm planning on starting to introduce some dairy products. Last time I tried was when he was 9 months old and I tried changing his formula (Kind of neocate) to Nutramigen and it didn't go well.

What should I start with? Yogurt or cheese? Should I start now or wait a little bit longer?

Also, has anyone seen a relation between MSPI and other food allergies? I haven't started feeding eggs but I think I should also start thinking about it.

Thanks!!

Adriana.

Hi we are also doing the dairy challenege now  :D I did a thread on it on this board

Dietician said to start with yoghurt 1 tsp, wait 2 days, if no reaction work up to 2, wait 2 days and so on.  Once a whole yog can be tolerated, move to cheese, a hard cheese such as cheddar (I got this advice from the wonderful ladies on this board).

good luck, we are on Neocate Active with dd, we have always had problem switchging milks, the dietician said it may be that some lo's can have yoghurt and cheese but not tolerate the proper milk ie whole milk

As for the allergies, well Abbi has no others, but yes, it is true that if they are mspi, they *may* have other allergies, but not that they def will

hth a little x

That is great information given by Emma. I hope your dairy trial goes well. It is quite common for children to be able to tolerate yogurt and cheese but not whole milk. I hope your lo does not turn out to have any other allergies.

Hi Emma,
Thanks for the information. Looks like our LO's are almost the same age. Are you trying lactose free yogurt or normal? Have you introduced eggs and citrus?

Looks like I'll start the dairy challenge pretty soon too!! Let you know how it goes.

Hi Adriana, we did fromage frais, so normal yoghurt. We have done egg and citrus, with no problems, she has no problem with anything except milk and soy which is good :)

Good luck, keep us posted  :-*
