Overtired 2.5 YO - Catnap This Afternoon? - UPDATE
« on: January 15, 2008, 18:29:23 pm »
So poor DD (29 months) is WAY overtired. We had a really busy weekend since we are moving house in 3 weeks or so and DD didn't get to nap much either day. Yesterday she did nap for 1 hour 45 minutes (I woke her) but then didn't fall asleep until 9:45 pm (!) despite going into her crib at 8:15 and then woke at just after 7 today - so a very short night. She seemed quite tired of course this morning but she went in her crib at about 12:20 and it's 1:50 now and she's still awake in there. If she does fall asleep eventually I'll let her get an hour or until 3:30 I guess (whichever is first) but I highly doubt she'll fall asleep at this point.

I'm not going to be driving anywhere this afternoon but certainly can/would be out with her in the stroller. Should I encourage/let her take a late afternoon stroller catnap? If so, for how long? I'd really like to get her back to her normal bedtime - which is 8-8:15 in crib and she used to always be asleep by 8:45/8:50...

TIA as always!

Update - she did end up falling asleep in her crib at about 1:55 (1 hour and 35 minutes after she went in!) so I guess will wake her at 3 and try for normal bedtime...

Me again... Well yesterday I let her nap just over an hour and got her into bed at 8:15 She fell asleep somewhere between 8:50-9 and woke at 7:10 today. Put her in her crib at 12:30 and it's 2 now and she's still up in there. Tomorrow should I try 15 minutes more A time before nap? If she doesn't fall asleep by 2:30 today should I get her up and if so do I let her take a catnap in the stroller if she needs? If so for how long?

TBH Karen when DD doesn't nap I tend to go for an earlier bedtime rather than a catnap as it would still push bedtime later even if she was OT.
Also Sasha now (and hasn't for ages!!) will not nap in the car or her stroller ::)

Thanks guys. Unfortunately she ended up falling asleep right at 2:20. I tried to wake her at 3 but she kept dozing until almost 3:30!!! Grrr. Since it took almost 2 hours today and yesterday for her to fall asleep for nap should I try 15 minutes more A time before nap tomorrow?

LOL Stacy! Right now I'm actually only at about 5.5 hours A time so maybe instead if she wakes at 7:10 again tomorrow get her in crib at 12:45 aim hope she's asleep by 1 or so?

In the event she doesn't nap, as you said I'd prefer to skip the catnap and do early bedtime. BUT sometimes it's next to impossible to keep her awake if we're out in the stroller (or more rarely in the car). If she does take a late catnap in stroller in that event how long would you allow her?

Hmmm sounds good. so tomorrow will try nap 15-20 minutes later/more A time and if no nap in crib will allow 15-20 minutes tops in stroller (if anything). Is Kaleb still up and singing?

Same here - every once in a while so hopefully this phase passes soon - at least for now. She did fall asleep by 8:50 or so tonight so if she wakes around her usual 7-7:10 tomorrow will try nap at 12:45 instead of 12:15/12:30 I think.

Drat - she faked me out... She woke around 7:20 this morning. Instead of putting her in around 12:30 I waited until 12:45. I thought she might be asleep at 1:15 (she looked pretty still when I peeked in) but now it's 1:25 and she's standing at her crib rail and singing... Grrr...

Turns out the fakeout was a potty issue. She started crying for the potty and then when I brought her there had a VERY painful poo and gas. Gave her some Mylanta and she asked for milk and had an ounce and a story and back in crib. She FINALLY fell asleep at about 2:30 so guess I will wake her around 3:20 or so... Is Kaleb sleeping?

Glad to hear it Stacy! So the 5.5 hours A time before crib today didn't work, although who knows how much the bad poo had to do with it. Maybe tomorrow will try ten more minutes first? Actually, can't - tomorrow she'll probably just get a little catnap in car as I have to be driving somewhere right at her nap time...

yea will have to try that Saturday and see what happens. Just hate when she falls asleep so late because she's SO hard to wake. Tried to wake her a 3:20 today from a 50 minute nap and it took until almost 3:35 and she's upset now.. Argh.
