16 mo dd climbing, moving to new house and toddler bed Help?
« on: January 22, 2008, 17:29:58 pm »
Good Afternoon,

DD is having a nap in her crib now, so I have a few minutes...

DD climbed out of her crib last week and now that we are moving this weekend, I feel I have no choice but to move her into a bed for her own safety.  She is only 16 mos so I worry that this change is too early, but I am paranoid that she'll fall out of her crib again and hurt herself.  Also, we are expecting a new baby in May so it would be good to have her out of the crib before then anyways.

I bought a toddler bed for her so I can still use her mattress and sheets, but I am unsure of how to make this transition as easy as possible for her.  She is normally a good sleeper, 7 to 7, but has had a rough few nights lately, not sure why really.

Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with all these new changes over the next few days?

Thanks!!

andibig

Moving house and a new bed :o :o :o.

She could be a little unsettled because of the up coming move.ok shes probably not aware shes about to go to a new home but they do pick up on our stress.I know how stressful that can be having done it 3 times in the past 6 years :P. so that could be why her sleeps a little unsettled.

I personally would try and keep her in the cot for a few weeks after the move just so she has some consistency. Can you lower the cot mattress any further? I know some mums (and DHs!!) have done some DIY to the cots so the matress was low enough.

Unfortunately it is on the lowest setting possible and has been for about 6 months.  I think the problem with our crib is that the mattress we bought is a spring mattress so it is quite thick which brings her up higher than most mattresses would.

I'm not able to adjust the crib to keep her in it and her new room will have hardwood so I am even more stressed about leaving her in it and her having another fall...

Perhaps you're right about her recent sleep though, she may be starting to feel a little bit of the chaos that is about to ensue!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm curious to know what other moms have done if dc gets out of bed at this point.  Right now when she wakes at night I just go in her room and tell her it's time for bed and she usually just lays back down and I leave right away.  But when she figures out she's got freedom what do I do then?
