19 mo. climbing help!
« on: January 23, 2008, 19:12:33 pm »
Our 19 mo. is very tall for her age and just showed us she can put her leg over the crib railing. She hasn't ever climbed out but after seeing her gymnastic this morning, I'm thinking it may be time to start thinking about taking the front off. Her mattress is very low to the ground (maybe 4 inches) and placing pillows on the ground. Any suggestions?

Also we're about to go out of town. What do you do when you travel with a toddler that no longer is in a pack 'n play? Just when we get things figured out.......

We are traveling the first time since our son transitioned (well sort of transitioned) to his toddler bed this weekend.  Not sure what we are going to do  - either the pack'n'play...which he can climb out of  or the big boy bed in his room at his grandmother's house, which does not have a bed rail.  Not loving either option.  (will probably opt to buy bed rails for the big boy bed).

We took the front off our son's crib and converted it to the toddler bed when he did climb out.  He is 23 months.  19 months seems early but you don't want a fall either.  Sorry I seem to be giving you absolutely useless advice.  I just wanted you to know that you aren't alone.

Leorah has pulled herself right over her cot and stretched to reach for her drink so we also realise she could climb out if she had the urge but hasn't done it. We are ready with a bedrail and have a quilt on the floor in case she does climb out, I don't think there is much more you can do, we are leaving it until the last minute because I know she would decide to start playing in the middle of the night  :P

Thanks Stacy. I can't seem to find any of the travel beds for under 3. All the ones I have found are without the higher inflatable sides. I wonder if they were discontinued? I found a link for one at walmart, but was unable to buy it online and when I searched the site it was not there...I know there is an aerobed version, but it is very expensive for something she may not even want to use.

My first son transitioned to twin bed mattresses on the ground at just two years.  If he fell off, there was no frame and not far to fall.

I might do the crib tent in the interim, which we used for a while too.  They work well and are actually quite cozy. :)
