Activity times for 4.5 month old
« on: January 23, 2008, 19:17:14 pm »
Our DS is doing great on 2 hours of activity time, and is on a consistent 4 hour routine.  When do they start to stay awake for longer?  Just curious when to be on the look-out for change!  I love having a baby who takes 3 consistent naps!!!!  So nice for DD too...

I think all babies are different. My ds is 6.5 months old and can still only last for 2 hours. Although it is only in the last month that he has consistently been able to go for this long. I think my ds is just one of those babies who need a little bit more sleep than other babies.

I'm pretty new to this EASY thing but I think as long as your lo is still napping well then the A time is working well for him. I know what you mean about having a baby who has 3 naps. I think it's great too!

Hi
Just want to ask chrissie - how was you ds doing at 5.5 months, mine is almost 6 months, and I can just about get him to 1.5 hours awake maybe up to 2 hours, not that i'm complaining, he sleeps from his last feed at 11 ish till bet 7 & 8 am but if I want to do anything during the day its very hrd as he only likes to sleep in his bed - wont sleep in the car or buggy and i have a 2 yr old. he has 3 and sometimes 4 naps a day mostly 2 - 2.5 hours and often have to wake him for a feed. just have him started on solids.

Hi Maeve,
At 5.5 months Jake had just made the transition from 1.5 to 2 hrs of A time. I can understand how hard it must be getting out and about - especially with having a toddler as well.

I've never really had a problem getting out as Jake will nap in the car or buggy. Plus he will quite happily have more shorter naps when we are out rather than a long 2hr nap. Why do you think he won't sleep when he is out? Do you think it is because he is so interested in the world around him now? Jake will stay awake when we are out for quite a while but if he is tired quite often the motion of the car/buggy is all too much for him and he falls asleep. Someone I know at a mother and baby group I go to has a lo who won't sleep in his buggy and if I remember correctly he is about a month older than my lo. When her lo shows tired signs when she is out she straps him to her front in his baby carrier and she just moves about until he falls asleep. I'm not sure if this would work for your lo but might be worth a try. I think their view of the world is probably a bit more restricted in the baby carrier than it is in their buggy so maybe there won't be so many distractions?

Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe some other mums will have some more advice for you.

Chrissie  :)

Thanks Chrissie,

I think he just is too interested in whats going on around him. My first son was great he'd sleep in the car, buggy etc and slept almost as much as the baby. The 6 month old hates the buggy - 15 - 20 mins in it and hes wailing sometimes or at the very least complaining, and I love walking and went out and spent a fortune on a good double buggy but hopefully over the next few months I can stretch him a bit with distractions - toys, snacks. I'll try him in the baby carrier and see how that goes.
