Wind down ideas for 10 month old?
« on: January 31, 2008, 23:31:46 pm »
Hi!

Well one of my 10 month old twins is having a pretty hard time settling down for her nap. We used to use a pacifier and it was pretty much Lights Out. We have since weaned her from the pacifier AND from her Amby Hammock and now nap time has turned into a challenge.

In particular the second nap of the day is difficult as she will cry for at least ten minutes before falling asleep. I know some bubs need to do that, but her twin sister is 12 inches away and it disturbs her sleep. So then of course I often have two crying bubs.

I've tried to introduce a lovey to make the transition easier (been trying since she was 4 months old) but she will throw it as if to say "out of my face!".

Any ideas? I've gone back to my Secrets of the BW, but they seem to apply to younger babies.

I appreciate it!

Lu

When Colin was about 10 mo., we would sit in the rocking chair and softly read two books, usually Goodnight Moon and then something else. Then I would gently stand with him and slow dance in a circle a few times, and then say it was time for bed, sleep well, see you in the morning, etc.

Was the only thing I found that worked with him actually!

Lu - I've started having to lengthen Abby's wind down, the usual bit doesn't seem to work.  So now about 20-30 min before nap time, we have quiet play time in her room - only quiet toys, and only one at a time.  Then it's diaper change, close blinds, cuddle and read in the rocking chair, then sing a song, then into bed.  I don't know if it's cuz she's more active now that she just needs more time to prepare herself for napping or what, but that seems to help her.  We do it for all naps and for bed.  We don't always make it for bedtime if we're doing something else, but we've always had a longer bedtime routine since she eats then too, so it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue, but I do it with both naps.

I like Jessica's dancing suggestion though too  :) :) :)

Actually, for naps he would always just go straight into the crib with a kiss and that was that. No idea why night was different but it was  ::)

My ds doesn't really like winddowns and it took me a while to figure that out.  He would fuss much more if I tried to do an extensive winddown, so now I just pick him up bring him upstairs, close the blinds, turn on his noise machine and put him down.  I think he was telling me that he just wants to go to sleep....Sorry, no help Lu, but I am thinking of you!!
