Fruit, Snacks and other
« on: February 13, 2008, 12:30:56 pm »
DD now eats two full meals a day and her weight has finally gone up YAY! However I can't get her to eat anything other than the two meals which she has which are always meat, veg and baby rice/semolina/baby pasta. I have tried a lot of diff things and in different forms and I was wondering whether I should just let it be considering her weight is going up steadily now (Was stand still for almost 3 months)? WHat do you all think? Currently her snacks are BF as she won't take a bottle but I'm not sure I have enough milk to satisfy the recommended amount of milk since milk is main source of nourishment till 1yr :-\

I think you should keep offering her the new stuff and eventually she will take it.  As long as her weight is going up, then she is getting nutrition.   My girls were totally different.  One would eat anything I gave her and the other one had a huge issue with texture - wouldn't eat anything lumpy and was eating stage 2 baby food up until just recently (they are 14mths now/12mths corrected).  She just suddenly changed and I don't know why but I guess she finally just gave in to my persistance.  She is still a lot more cautious and won't eat as much as her sister but she's putting on weight steadily so I'm happy with that.

Thanks for that, makes sense. I do offer all sorts of stuff but she has a total disgust for most of it. She too was only having pureed very smooth food, now she'll tolerate bits of carrot etcx in (very small and overcooked) and will eat breadsticks and other such dry savoury snacks but no cheese, fruits, ham, veg etc. It's rather annpoying really

I just noticed that your DD is Emily - my fussy eater is Emily too !!  She was exactly like that - carrot had to be next to mush before she would take it - anything remotely solid was spit out very deliberately.  Now, however she seems more interested.  Today I chopped up a kiwi and gave it to them and Orla just ate it - Im not sure she even cared how it tasted but Emily examined it over and over and over and played with the seeds and eventually I got a few pieces into but once she was done looking at it she was done eating it.  She's a lot more adventurous though than before so keep at it....  By the way Emily is only just cutting her first tooth and I thought that might have something to do with it too.  Orla has 7 teeth and is well capable of chewing through anything so she's more "equiped" for the job !

aw shucks that one was my magic turning point with ds where anything i mixed it with got eaten.

Hmm  :-\  Sounds tricky. Is your ped still worried about her weight? If they are happy with her gains I guess I would say just keep offering her everything you can without stressing about it (I know, WAY easier said than done ::)) and at a certain point she is bound to start eating them. She IS still little so at this point it seems ok to me if she is getting most cal from milk...
