late naps
« on: February 23, 2008, 13:04:45 pm »
Hi there. Ds will be 3 in May and for the past few weeks he seems to be wanting his nap later and later. He gets up at 6:30am most days and doesnt want to go to bed till 2pm. Is it ok to put him down at this time and what time should his bed time be?

Oh he naps for 1.5 hrs.

I don't know whether this is the right answer for a nearly 3 year old but I would be tempted to cut the nap to about an hour and then have bedtime at the normal time.

Hi Tammy,
I posted on a similar thread yesterday, as DD (28 mos.) doesn't fall asleep for her nap until 1:45. I've been waking her at 2:45 and doing bedtime between 7:30 and 7:45. It's been working well for us so far. I would maybe let him sleep from 2-3 as pp suggested and try bedtime sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 to see how it goes. What is his usual bedtime (with the 1.5 hr. naps)?

Hi there Jenny. Thanks for the reply. At the moment his bed time is 7:30. Today he fell asleep at 1:45 and woke at 2:45. He was really tired by 7pm so he was in bed by 7:15. I will let you know how it goes.

Here too it seems like if DD only has a 1 hour nap, she only needs 5 hours max. of A time (sometimes less) before bed to fall asleep quickly. Hope things are going well!
