a time extension and breast feeding.
« on: March 08, 2008, 01:06:52 am »
Hello,

My LO is 6 months old and we are feeding every 4 hours. He is EBF and there are times when he needs to be fed before the 4 hour mark, no biggie.
We are currently working on stretching our A times anywhere between 2.25 and 2.5 hours, therefore going past the 4 hour easy. I was wondering if at some point I start to extend the time between feeds slightly too?
Personally, it would seem too long to go without being breast fed, but I'm still learning!
I ask, as we are currently introducing solids an hour after BF.
 :)

At 6 months most people stick with breastfeeds every 4 hours (Yes, it does feel like you are constantly always either feeding solids or breastfeeding!!). If you space too much (and your baby is a good sleeper) then you could end up not getting in 4 breast feeds. You don't really want to go less than 4 at this age. 4 or 5 is the minimum.
If you space too much in the day you may find he needs to make up the milk intake at night and you see extra nightwakings or (even worse) he increases his solids intake too early and your supply begins to suffer.
Why not have a look around the EASY board and see what other people's schedules are at 6 months.

Great, will do, thanks!
We are doing well on the 4 hour between feeds, just wondered if I should be trying to extend slightly as he gets older. I'm happy to keep things the way they are.
It does feel like we are always eating!
