My son is almost 5 months old and has been the same since very early on.  My doula/lactation consultant said some babies can drain a side in 5-7 minutes.  My son certainly doesn't hang around and once he is done he is done.

Mine takes 40 minutes, but that's because she's sleepy. She probably drinks for 15 minutes in that time, and I only do a single breast per feed.

My DS (12 weeks) takes 5-10 minutes.  7 is his average.  At first I thought this was way to short and was trying for his whole awake time to get him to eat more, but finally gave up.  Since he maintains his 3 hour routine and generally only has one middle-of-the-night feed, I assume he's getting enough!

At 3.5 months - I'd estimate 5-7 minutes is pretty typical. Sometimes not even 5 minutes though. She's getting enough. I do have a fast letdown/ flow.

My 22 wk. ds takes about 5 min. each side.  At bedtime, he takes 20 min. from each side.  And during the night, I stop him at 10 min. per side. Heather

I was paranoid about that too! My LO has been a very efficient eater from the start. She was around the 8 min mark for a long time. Now at 11 months she drains a side in 2-3mins. 5-8mins for both sides tops.

hi! great thread. my ebf dd is 3.5 months old and has also always been a pretty efficient eater. early on it was 10min per side average.

I've noticed however that, over the past couple weeks, feeds have getting shorter, especially daytime - dream feed still tends to be 10-15 mins per side, if I can even get her to do a second side - and I started wondering if it could be a supply issue. especially because some days I feel quite full, other days rather flacid, even though I always drink lots of water. diapers still seem normal so I figured I'd roll with it and and as long as lo still has her pudgy cheeks I know she's well fed.  ;)

anyway, today, three feeds were 5 minutes each side and when I tried to get her to go longer she just fussed. in fact, that's one of the reasons I got online this evening....this thread reassures!

so I guess I can count myself in the lucky crowd! :)

I has always been quick.  I didn't trust that early on b/c J was slow.  I takes about 5 min/side now (10 mo).  When he was younger, it was around 10 min/side.  I do have to say it's convenient, since I've got a toddler running around!  :D

Remember, you're looking for satisfaction, sufficient wet diapers, and healthy growth.  Sounds like all is well.  :)
