Hi Button!  Oh, it's sooo nice to hear other people have the same experiences as us!  Even if we know our LO's better than anyone, it certainly helps to have our experiences validated by others in similar situations!  So I am so glad you posted!  :)

And emz1907, I am so sorry you are more confused!  I definitely know how you feel though...this topic totally wiped me out a few weeks ago! lol!  Let us know what your homework tells you!  Best of luck!!  :)

hmm...christiewi,

thanks for your post here. I think I too have to make some time out to observe Josh's cry...The problem that DH and I always have is that we go in too soon... Maybe you are right we should set a time like 10-15 mins or so to see how the cry goes...
Nic

Hi NicElua!

I think it might be a good idea to at least try it out.  If it makes you feel more comfortable, you could start with an even smaller amount of time...like 5 minutes or so.  It always seems like so much longer than it is, so 5 minutes may actually be much longer than you are used to waiting and may even be enough.  I think the main thing to look for are the pauses...that's what really tipped us off.  Also, if you can stand in a place where you can observe your LO's body language, that can be really helpful as well.  For example, Noah would always have his eyes closed and be moving his head back and forth and sometimes squirming a bit; it's how he "settles in", so to speak.  :)  He couldn't see us, so we would just pop in and glance at him every now and then and if he was doing that, we knew sleep was near.

I hope it goes well!!  Keep us posted!  :)

Christiewi yes you're right, the other thing I forgot to mention about Aidan's "settling" cry is that he does stop inbetween to suck his fingers - whereas when he is really distressed it is non-stop!  So that also helps to tell.

Christiewi your are also right about the body language-I have watched my dd someitmes and when she is 'mantring' she is not looking out for me our dp but is closing her eyes and rubbing them and hugging her taggie which I know is what she does just before she falls asleep. When she needs us she throws the taggie away and looks towards us.
Thans again.
