average up time for 7 month old
« on: March 17, 2008, 13:18:01 pm »
What is the average time that 7 month olds stay up? she is fighting to stay up for up to 4 hours at a time sometimes and other times it's 2 to 2 1/2 hours. 2 1/2 hours has been average for the first UP time but this morning and many other mornings and/or afternoons....she realllllly fights it and I end up spending an hour and half trying to get her to sleep which is VERY hard with 2 year old around and than of course when she stays up that long, she either naps for a VERY short time because she wakes up because it's time for her next bottle OR she insists on having her next bottle before she goes back down. She has solids breakfast, lunch and supper and has bottle every 3 to 4 hours usually on average.

ya she was up from about 6:30am until almost 10:15am and than slept until 10:45am. fun. My life on a daily basis. Occasionally I get days where she will take a decent an hour a half to 2 hour nap in the afternoon but since she was born...it's mostly 30 to 50 minute naps. Usually every few hours. Up time is usually between 2 and 4 hours with the occasional even longer than that.

My LO is almost 9 months is has 3 hours of A time now. I have found that even though he doesn't act tired, I still need to put him down at 3 hours. Sometimes he seems totally happy and playful but when I bring him in his room and down wind down then he'll show me his tired signs. If I keep him up then he is hard to put down and will be OT, which usually results in a 30 min. nap. I used to be able to go by his tired cues but now that he's older I have to watch the clock because he doesn't show them.

this absolutely never happens, but we only let her stay up for about an hour and 1/2 and she ended up taking a 2.5 hour nap. Couldn't believe it.

Wow, a 2.5 hour nap! She must've been catching up on some sleep! I bet it was nice to get a little break yourself!

well that was after she had stayed up for so long and than only took that 1/2 hour nap. a little bit later she had her bottle and than a little later some lunch and after that my helper (i'm working from home) took her upstairs and said do you think she's ready for a nap. I said, well shes only been up for like an hour and a 1/2 or something like that but than again, she did only nap for 1/2 hour this morning after staying up for a LONG time. So she put her down and than she slept for 2.5 hours. She never does that for me (waaaaaaa). Every day I get 30 minute to 50 minute naps with the occasional 1.5 to 2 hour naps.

The first nap is often an extension of night sleep so depends on how you want to play it. If ds wakes up really early then I do 3 hours so nap at 9.15/9.30 for an hour. If he wakes later then nap at the same time so 2.5 hours with an approximate 45 min nap. He now does this naturally well kind of. I do like this to preserve the lunch time nap which is about 1 hour 20 or like today 2 hours. I dont want ds to push all naps later and need him up by 3.30 in order to get out and about ( will only sleep in cot) plus need him in bed by 7.15ish. So our longest wake time is in the pm at 4 hours after a long nap, other wake times between 2.5 and 3 hours
