Help - shall I drop the df?
« on: March 18, 2008, 07:47:48 am »
dd is  almost 11 weeks and recently moved over to bottles (ebm with some formula)

she is on 3 hr easy - 7, 10, 1, 4, 6.30, 10.30df

i struggle to ger her to eat more than 3oz? is this ok? ocassionally she will manage 4 but often only 2.5.

after the df at 10.30 she is then up again at about 2.30 then again at 5. Last night only took 2oz at each of these and then would only take 1oz at 7!! seems to me she just needs 1 feed of 5oz but doesnt take it all in one go.

is thre any use in df if she is up twice?

shall i get faster teats?

thanks

I think cos she is still so young you will still have night wakings for a while. So I would continue with a feed at 10.30.  Perhaps check the flow rate of your teats, perhaps a different flow would increase her amounts?

You could always try skipping the DF and see what happens.

Maybe the df was disturbing her sleep.  I would try skipping it again for a few more days and see what happens.

I think she is doing just great as she is, and would personally not mess with it. The amount they sleep in one go in not solely dependant on how much food is in their tummies. If only it were that simple!

So Im not preventing her ability to go through the night the way things are? will she just gradually extend that night feed later and later over time?

What about days like today when her last 2 feeds werent great - do I attempt a feed before i go to bed or just let her wake in the night as and when

I would let her wake naturally...I think it can disrupt their sleep cycles if you wake them. I know others have a different experience though.

No, I don't think you are preventing her ability to go through the night with the way things are at the moment. She is settling well after the night feed, going straight back to sleep, right?

I

just a note to say that my pedi told us that if you multiply your child's weight in pounds by 2.5 that is the least amout your child should be getting in OZs in the day.  DS had problems when he was very young and had more feedings in the day with less OZs...

... thought I would throw that one out there if you're worried about the amount your lo is getting...

Thanks for that, mathilda is 12.5 lbs which means she should be getting 31.25 ozs

i make up 5oz bottles so thats 6x5 = 30oz. its rare for her to finish them though so she isnt getting quite enough?

Do I need to worry? She is gaining well and has very chubby cheeks and legs!

It's a rough estimate and if she's gaining you're fine.... just a bench mark thats all!
