Almost 8 mo. have questions
« on: April 06, 2008, 23:46:17 pm »
My son is almost 8 months old and I'm not sure if I should be changing his schedule. He seems to be eating fine, but I just feel like we're supposed to move towards 3 bottles a day instead of 4. Here's his schedule. Tell me what you think.

6:30 Wake/ bottle 4-6 oz
8 to 8:30 solids
9 to 11 ish nap
11:30 to 12 bottle 4-6 oz or bm or formula
12:30 solids
2-4ish nap
4:30 bottle (4-6 oz of bm or formula
5-5:30 solids
6:30 bottle (6-8 oz formula)
*** The last two bottles seem really close together to me, but he seems happy to get them both and usually eats alot.

He's not spitting up excessively, he seems happy, and we are weaning him off the boob. Today was his first non-boob day. He doesn't seem too hungry when he wakes and only eats 4-5 ounces.  I'm not sure if it's because daycare has breastmilk for his meals so his little body burns through that quickly, or he's just having a couple non-hungry days. I'm not sure what the next step is. I know I should swap the solids and the bottle soon. I've looked on the sample routines, but I'm having trouble focusing on those schedules compared to mine because I have two little ones to tend to.

Any advice or ideas would be great.

Diana this looks fine to me.  My LO is 12 months and still having 4 bottles a day.  You'll know when it's time to go to 3 bottles as your LO will most likely reject one bottle outright...or will show less interest at least.  If he's thriving and sleeping well (Day and Night) then don't change a thing.  You know the saying..don't fix what ain't broke.

You seem to be doing really well...good job!

Just like the pp said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it :)

There is no rush at all to switch the milk/solids order round, or to drop to 3 bottles - babies' primary source of nutrition until 12 months is milk, with solid foods just supplementing this - continue to prioritise the milk, minimum of 20oz per day until 12 months! And even after that, there's no rush to drop milkfeeds - my dd2 is only just at the point where I need to reduce her milk intake to encourage her solid intake, and she's 21 months :o!

This sort of routine:

7am milk
7.30am solids
10am nap
11.30am milk
12.30pm solids
2.30pm nap
4pm milk
4.30/5pm solids
6.30pm milk
7pm bed

which is very much like yours, seems to work well with most babies up to a year old!
