TRANSITIONING TO 4 HR EASY~~WAKE BABY UP OR LET HIM SLEEP
« on: April 09, 2008, 23:27:38 pm »
Hi
My LO is now just turned 4 mon and I'm in the process of transitioning him to the 4 hour easy I'm following Tracy's schedule the one laid out in BW SOLVES ALL YOUR PROBLEMS slowly extending his awake time by 15 min. and lengthening his naps with PU/PD.  Just one problem though my LO was a chronic short 45 min napper which I believe was his sign telling me he was ready for the 4 hour transition, but now I'm dealing with a new problem........he won't wake up near the time scheduled for the next feed.
Say I lay him down for nap at 12:30 and am supposed to give him a 1 3/4 hour nap and feed at 1:45 pm (like the book says) 45 min later he'll awake then I put him down with PU/PD at 1:30 then he'll sleep really deeply past 1:45 and past 2:00 and for the past few days I've been waking him at 2:05.  He's not too happy when I wake him and he's very grumpy then I'll stick a bottle in his mouth and his eyelids start drooping.........
Am I doing the right thing in waking him?????  From what I got out of the book we're in the process of reprograming him so that he's on a good schedule.  I afraid if I let him sleep too long for his naps that he'll start to get his nights and days reversed like newborns, however he's not too happy when I wake him up from his slumber.  What do I do???  Any suggestions???

Hello there  :)

The plan laid out in the book is a guide.
It's really good to follow your baby and use that as an outline.
Not all babies following things to the book, most don't.

When he wakes up at 45 minutes, what is he doing?

If he is that tired, maybe wait until the next sleep phase to wake him up so he's not so grumpy.

Also, with moving to the 4 hour EASY all babies need different things.
Some need a slow transition, some move over cold turkey.
Just do whatever is best for your lo!
