no nap at 25 months?! too early or?
« on: April 10, 2008, 00:35:47 am »
Hi!
Thanks for reading!
My DD is 25 months. This is her routine.
7:30AM up
1-3pm nap
6:45pm get ready for bed
7pm bed time (no later than 7:30pm)

She has been skipping her nap here and there before, never consecutively until these two days....so instead of sleeping or resting, she talks and sings what happened in the morning.  She knows her routine so she doesn't fight with me when we get ready for nap.  Today is the 2nd day she skipped her nap, never skipped it twice before....so should I be concerned? any idea? Should I stick with her current routine or change it?
Please don't tell me she is ready with 0 nap already  :o ;)

She is not herself by the end of the day (emotional and short attention span) when she skipped the nap, but does fall asleep quickly and has no problem sleep through the night.

I do notice a set of teeth are coming in.....is that it?

Hi Chocho,

My dd (23mths) is going through the same thing. I would suggest giving your dd Tylenol or anything else you use when she is teething. Sometimes I use a homeopathic product called Camilia. Just ask your pharmacist about it.

On days where my dd does not take a nap I will try and put her down earlier for the night. It helps her sleep longer and she won't become overtired.

Good Luck
Dree

Hi Dree!
Thanks for your support!
How early should I put her down for the night on the day she skips the nap? Bed time is usually around 7pm, so 15-30 min earlier or?

I am so not ready for 0 nap....isn't it too early for her to drop the nap? but she is not resting/relaxing during that time.....I am  confused!

{{{HUGS}}} it might be teething or it could also be that she's fulfilling all of her sleep requirements at night. Toddlers in general do 13hrs of sleep (11 at night and 1.5-2hr nap)... so if you see that you're in a cycle of 12hr nights (or longer) and no nap, it might be time to start waking her up earlier in the day (say around 7am) or maybe push bedtime about 15mins every couple of days

Toddler can go through no-nap days and most start giving up naps around 2.5yo.... she does seem a little too young to be giving up altogether. Earlier bedtime will help with overtiredness but again, if you notice a pattern of 12-13hrs at night and no nap, it might be that she's sleeping too much at night

ALso try tiring her out in the morning, before nap. Take her out to give her lots of chance to run around, etc...

hth a little
Layla

My dd normally sleeps 9-10hrs at night and takes a 1 1/2 to 2hrs nap. When she doesn't nap I put her down 1hr earlier. I know that for some people that is not ideal but it works for us.

In my case, I think my dd does not sleep enough. But, I do agree with the people about going out and getting your LO tired enough to sleep that is what I and the daycare do.

Good Luck

Those are great suggestions! Thank you ladies for sharing your experience with me!

Happy to let you know....she is back to nap!! (HALLELOUYA!!!) She went two day straight with no nap....got me worried! I know that "3 days form a pattern" thing.....

After seeing signs of irritation from teething and reading your suggestion, my DH and I decided to give her children's tylenol 30min before the nap, and it seemed to help her to relax and finally closed her eyes to take the nap.

Thank you so much!!!
I am so glad that I can count on your information, this web site has been giving me great comfort since I joined.
