Short Naps and Props
« on: April 13, 2008, 12:59:05 pm »
My dd is 6 weeks old and we have not been able to get on and EASY routine due to reflux. It is finally better and I am working on short naps. She will only sleep 3-4 1/2 hour naps a day. She isn't fussy until the evening due to lack of sleep. She sleeps great at night 4-5 hour stretches.

My question is do you ever go to the swing to get a nice long nap in to avoid an overtired baby?
I am working with shortening her A time. Today I put her down after 1 hour of A and she just stirred in her bed and then started fussing after 20 minutes.

TIA!

Hi there!  I would say that if she isn't fussy until evening, I'd use the swing around that time to get a catnap.  Tracy has always called the catnap a "freebie" which means you can use AP (since this is the first nap to go).  I would be wary of using one for other naps because she may become accustomed to it and then it will be much harder to get her to sleep independently again.

HTH!
