cows milk - keep or throw
« on: April 14, 2008, 18:34:50 pm »
Hey all,

Quick question...DS is now completely on cow's milk....and at times has only half the feed he usually takes. the remaining milk (in his feeding bottle) should I throw away or can I keep in the fridge for next feed.

I am not being mean, just hate seeing food wasted and DS seems to constantly be wasting food.

thanks,
Mukta

Whenever dd doesn't finish her milk and it's still cool then I stick it back into the fridge.

straight from the fridge.  Cold milk was the only way she'll take it in the beginning.  Since then she will take it at any temp but warm milk.

Hi Vanessia,

Sorry to hear about your sleepless nights, its the same here. So I totally understand where you are.

I did the mixing of formula and cows milk for about 10-14 days. Ds normally takes about 6oz of milk. SO I started with 5 oz formula and 1 oz cows milk, for 2 days then increazed to 2 oz cows for about 3 days then half an half for another 3 days and so on.

The transition was no problem at all.

I don't give fridge cold milk, I actually put say the 6oz in the microwave for about 40 seconds (in a glass not the baby's bottle) just to take the edge off. Although sounds like almost everyone does straight from the fridge.

the transition was a lot more smoothr than I expected and I am so happy to have done it, life is so much easier.

So, when you give the milk again to DS, do you re- heat? That's not such a good idea cos of bacteria etc. But we use the left over milk in our tea/coffee/cereal so it's not wasted!

oops

i don;t actually 'heat' the milk, just put it in the microwave for 20 secsond sto take the edge off, but thats wrong I guess....

so maybe need to start giving straight from the fridge....but not sure DS will like the chilled milk...

we always give chilled milk in a cup or sippy, and as long as she hasn't had it too long it goes back in the fridge for the next time.
