Question about Baby-LED for Starting for an 8 Month Old
« on: April 16, 2008, 19:41:04 pm »
My son is almost 8 months old and still eats only milk.  Don't worry he still gains weight and is fine according to the Pediatrician we saw 3 weeks ago.  My son just hates to eat anything from spoon form.  He refuses to open his mouth for a spoon.  The pediatrician advised me to add rice cereal to his bottle, and I have been doing that for the past few weeks with no problem.  However when I make the exact same cereal but put it in a bowl and use a spoon he spits it out and won't take one bite.  Same goes for any purees.

I was on here a while ago when he was about 6 months looking into LED, but now I cannot remember some stuff.  So I am thinking of putting my son on this LED, to see if he will eat foods that way.  Hopefully he'll eat something.  So my question is, what foods are good to start out with?  I read the FAQ thread that said "Soft fruits and veggies" but what is considered soft fruits and veggies?  I just need some tips on starting out.

Thanks you!
Melanie

Hi there! Soft fruits could be sliced pear, sliced apples, sliced bananas?
Veg - boiled and chopped cauliflour or broccoli, soft boiled sliced carrot, mange a tout, peas etc

(just few ideas off top of my head)

Good luck hope blw works well for him xxxx

Soft food is anything that he can mush with his gums.  Some fruits are mushable when they are very ripe, like bananas, avocados, grapes, prunes, watermelons, etc.  If not, then you can always steam them to soften them up.  Same thing with veggies.  You can steam, boil, bake or roast them.

I love BLW as I don't have to really prepare anything special for ds.  He eats what we eat only with less seasoning.  Be prepare for the mess and bring out the camera.   ;D

Check out the FAQ on BLW for how to get started, and also the Finger Foods for Young Babies thread in Recipes :)

i found it really helpful to do the mush test with my own tongue. if i could mash it with my tongue against the roof of my mouth i knew it was safe to give to liam (choking wise) as for foods, a great website is http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com

(ps. about bibs: we've resorted to taking his pants off at every meal... with finger foods they get everywhere!)
