21mo slipped back into early wakes - help!!
« on: April 18, 2008, 07:38:00 am »
Hi!

been a while since i last posted. Millie's early wake ups are back, boooo! She slipped back into the 5-5.30 wakes and we were all set to take advantage of the clock changes when she got really bad croup and we ended up in hospital for 3 days. Was all a bit scary but thankfully she is better now. Most days she is up at 5am ish but then some days will sleep through til 6-6.15, just not every day unfortunately, in fact it seems to alternate between the 2. eg yesterday was:

6am wake
12 nap for 1.5 hrs
7pm bed

the day before was:

5.15am wake
11.30 nap for 1.5 hrs
7pm bed

Do i need to mover her naps/ned forward? Any advice would be much appreciated!

tired emma x

A bit more from me!

After reading a few posts it would seem the general advice is earlier naps/bedtime for a few days then start pushing it forwards??? Just wonderered a few things if that is the case:

>what are good A times for this age - she can make it 6 hrs in the am as long as we don't go anywhere in the buggy as she instantly nods off, after a decent nap she can go for 6 hrs in the pm too, but are these too long?

> if i do early nap/bed on a 5am wake up day, what do i do the next day if she wakes at 6? Do i shift everything forward a bit to compensate - this is what i have been doing but it hasn't exactly been working  ::)

Need a plan, as i am sick of being tired! Also when she's up at 5am ish millie is def more grumpy and tired too,

Hi Emma, sorry your post hasn't been answered yet.

What I would suggest is on the day she wakes around 5ish, offer her a nap around 11.30am, let her sleep 1.5hrs and then do bedtime around 6-6.30pm. I think 6hrs A time in the pm is too long (well in our case it would be).

When she wakes around 6am, I would move the nap but not the whole hour or 30mins in advance but rather stick to 15min increments... and same with bedtime.

hth & let me know how things are going
Layla

Thanks you very much Layla!

Well typically it all went a bit pear shaped yesterday! She woke at 5.10, napped from 11.30 for 2 hours (never normally sleeps this long), was ion bed at 7pm fine but was then awake from 10.15 till 11.45 - groan, crying and demanding that i cuddle her and asking me to sit down by her cot. No idea what it was all about, nap too long? something she ate (she has food allergies)? or teeth? Anyway she slept thru til 5.50am and today ahs napped from 11.40 til 1.15 (i woke her) and will put her to bed at 6.30ish.

Fingers crossed and i will keep u posted,

emma x

2 days of 6.10 am wake ups -woo hoo, then today was 4.55am bleurgh! Although she had a shorter nap at childcare yesterday - only 12.00-1.15 but didn't get to bed until 7.00. Maybe a bit of OT still lingering - can she really be that sensitive to 30 mins more A time???

early bed tonight for both of us i guess

Bedtime slightly too late maybe? I always aim for 5hrs A time so that she is asleep by 5.5 the most.

Good to hear on the wake up time :D. The 4.55am I would put that down to too short of a nap and then late bedtime... you get the idea ;). So yeah... slightely OT... i know my dd is sensitive to A times (especially the one before bed!)

Keep me posted  :)
