6:30am shouting grrrrrr/Nap issues/No nap = wreck etc etc
« on: April 18, 2008, 11:54:03 am »
DS has woke the last 3 days at 6:30am, ok its not that early really but he shares a room with dd and if she loses the extra hr (she normally sleeps until 7:30am), then she is really grumpy and OT. What he is shouting for is his lovie (a nightie), Should I just go and get more and more strips of the nightie so he can always find one? Also, we are struggling with his nap, he is 3 next month and most days refuses it, BUT that means that he is ot and screaming by 3pm and rubbing his eyes like mad!  If he has a nap he doesnt go to sleep until 8:30/9 regardless of the length of nap, but with no nap he is asleep by 6:30/7pm.  Is it normal to go through this rocky stage with the no nap switch? I am so reluctant to let him nap when he decides to as he falls asleep so late. Ugh, any thoughts?

Yuk, hugs Em, sounds tough.
I really don't know what the answer is but i'd be inclined to let him have a short nap, perhaps later. He usually goes down at 12 right? Thomas goes down about 1 or later depending on what time he woke then I wake him no later than 3 and actually think he does well with an 8pm bedtime (and it's usually later when he's actaullly fallen asleep) I remember feelign a bit panicky when he started goign to bed later but it has worked out well as he gets some quiet time with us after emily is in bed and means he doesnt wake up at stupid o'clock in the morning.
Sounds as though the 6.30 wakeup could be OT so maybe he isnt ready to drop that nap, just reduce it drastically and this may mean a later ebdtime for a while.

hugs Emma }}}}{{{{{ I remember having these times well with Meg.. :-\

Basically I agree with most of what Michelle says really....other than that i will say it's probably a phase he's going thru at the mo and he will grow out of it.  Its sounds like maybe his early wakings are due to being OT....i think the whole nap issue will resolve itself once he's not waking so early.....once he goes nursery everyday in september he may refuse a nap altogether but by then hopefully he may not be able to get up as early as he is now! Im having early waking probs in my 4 1/2 year old atm because the mornings are lighter now, whereas in the winter months its still dark so she stays asleep....BUT i have a clear rule with her, which i ve maintained since she was about 3...NO getting up before 7am...i know this sounds harsh and Meg always has a cup of water in her room should she wake in the night/early morning thirsty.  Shes allowed to play quietly or look at books but I stick to that one rule  :P  Im not saying you should do this with Jack hun - it might not work for you, but i guess its a thought as once he starts nursery you may find it near on impossible to get him to nap, and he will learn that he's not allowed downstairs/ 'up' in the morning before 7am...it might encourage him to sleep more or it might not.....its trial and error but normallly these things do pass, they always did with Meg.....until something else comes along... ::)....and then im back on here lol..... :P

Hope this helps hun xxxxx tell me to shut the hole under my nose if you think im chatting rubbish  ;)  :-*

There are these special clocks you can buy for kiddies with a bunny in it...half is dark the other is light...when bunnys eyes are open, its awake time, when bunny's eyes are closed its bedtime.....

Well it worked with meg... :-\ Not so sure about LO tho... :P clould be on here when the time comes asking about her early wakings lol  ::)
