I HAVE to mess up her schedule for a day...HELP!
« on: April 21, 2008, 16:18:38 pm »
Hi girls...
My dd is 16 months...naps like an angel, but only in HER crib, only at home.
My house is for sale and I have no choice but to do an open house.  We are desperate.  Open house must be held from 1pm til 4pm, and dd's nap is like clockwork from 12:30 til 3.
So..I'm wondering if on the day of the open house, if I wake her early, like 5am (noramlly she wakes at 7am on the dot!) and then give her a nap from 10 til 12;30....would that be awful??  She is such a creature of habit, I have no idea what this would do to her....maybe it would work out just fine. But any other time I have screwed with her nap, like for a Dr. appt or whatever, she is a mess for 2 days.
I feel like I have no other choice....she won't even nap in the car really, so dh driving her around for 2 hours probably wouldn't work.
 Any thoughts?

Is there somewhere else she can go that day? Someone else who can watch her?

My worry would be that the short night, then a nap at a time she is usually awake will cause her to not nap at all or take a really short nap despite the normal amount of A time and then have a really long day.

I think if it where me I would try for wake at 6am nap at 11-12.30 then to bed 1.5hrs early too, for her to catch up on lost day sleep and hopefully not go to bed OT.

If it turns out she doesn't nap at all just get her to bed at least 2hrs early and you should find she gets over it fairly well, you will probably have nws that night but its suprising when established on 1 nap how well they cope with the odd day of no nap at all.

Hope you get a good turn out for the open day.

I also wouldn't be waking her up at 5am... could you take a drive and she'll fall asleep in the car? I don't think 1 day will do much... the other day we went out to visit a friend and ended up staying there all day. Jasmine totally missed her nap & didn't fall asleep until we headed home at 3pm. She had a 45min catnap, I put her to bed at 7pm (she fell asleep straight away)... she woke the next morning at 5.30am (obviously ot from the day before). The next day I put her for nap earlier, did earlier bedtime and the day after she woke at her normal 6am. We had 1 cryout that night but she settled herself (thankfully)

She is also one of those that don't sleep anywhere but her cot and only in the car if the timing is right.

Good luck with the open day :)

Hmmmm....well, she will be with dh, so it's not that I have nobody to watch her. It's just that she won't sleep anyplace but here.  Not even the car.   ::)
I think I'll do as new mum suggests....that sounds like the best thing. For a "new mum"...you give great advice!!!
Thanks girls....and thank you for the wishes of luck....we need it!!!   :-*
