Help!!!!! Not hungry or windy or something else!!!!
« on: April 21, 2008, 22:57:42 pm »
Hi,

My name is Suzanne and I live NZ.  My 9 week ds has suddenly started eating a lot less - about 100-200mls (4-7oz) over a whole day.  He used to have about 130mls (4 1/2oz) 7 times a day but now he is only having 60-110mls (2-4oz) each feed.  He is average size for his age about 5.6 kg.  He arches his back and goes rigid and cries during his feed.  He will burp but often refuses to have any more milk.  I have tried gripe water and infacol (NZ products for wind), neither of which have made any difference.  Also took him to a cranial osteopath yesterday.  She said his head and spine were good so I am fresh out of ideas.  Can anyone relate?  I pretty stressed and would welcome any ideas.

My second was a really hard feed so I know where you're coming from.  We ended up putting a pillow on the couch propped up, laying her on the pillow and then just sitting beside her and holding the bottle feeding her that way.  Don't know why but it worked - almost like she just wanted to stretch out while she was eating.  She would let us hold her sometimes but most times this is how it went.

My DS (14 months now and no longer on the bottle) would also have some hard feeds and get stiff and cry and just not take his bottle and we ended up just putting him in his car seat (one of those bucket ones that comes in and out of the base in the car) and either propping his bottle with a blanket or sitting beside him and holding it.

Not sure what else to suggest.  Hope you can find something that works for you!

ds had an aversion to us holding him while he ate... still does actually.  If the pillow doesn't work you might want to ask about reflux...

But the pillow worked for ds and he ate much better there. :)
