teething bisquits questions
« on: April 26, 2008, 14:10:19 pm »
we've tried a bunch of different teething bisquits as finger food but every time he gets hives from them! so we stop giving them, try a new bisquit, & hives again...

is he just too young for them? i'm really confused b/c he can eat cheerios & baby mum mum's just fine - its only the teething cookies he can't seem to handle (oh & one time we tried a bit of bread [whole wheat] & he got hives, then a rash)

There might be something in them that he is allergic to.  There really is no need for him to have them.  IMO I think that they are just cookies in disguise.  You could wait a few more weeks to introduce them again if you want.  I have heard that you can use a frozen bagel instead.

After looking at the ingredients in cheerios and baby mum mums I notice that neither have wheat in them. You said that your lo had hives after trying the whole wheat bread also. I think it is possible that your lo is allergic to wheat. I would make an appointment with his paediatrician to discuss this. I would also not give him anything with wheat in until you have seen the paediatrician just incase the reaction is more serious next time.

Oh wow, I would deft. steer clear of wheat.  Anytime there is a family history, they advise not to introduce wheat until after 1 year.

Also could be the milk in the teething biscuits, not sure if they are in the other thing.

Fawndoe, I am always happy to look into these kind of things. I don't always get chance to do it straight away however.
