Winding down issue
« on: April 28, 2008, 23:07:09 pm »
We had a really great wind down schedule for my lo but with cutting of his first tooth we have had to modify the routine a little and now he will not settle.

Our previous routine was this - bath, story and then bottle and put to bed.  The bottle wouldn't put him to sleep but it would make him drowsy so generally I just had to put him into bed and he'd roll over and go to sleep.

Since his tooth cut we have been doing this.  Bath, bottle, brush teeth, story then bed.  The problem is that the brushing teeth after his bottle is re-stimulating him and he will not settle without a fight.  Any ideas to help him wind down properly now after brushing his tooth or is just something he'll get used to eventually and we have to stick with it???

Hi there...

Not sure how you would feel about this but I have been told that you can wipe the childs teeth down with a wash cloth while they are still little and it will still do a fine job.  Maybe if you simply wiped it little toothy down it wouldn't be such a stimulating process?

To be honest...there are many nights that I brush ds teeth before milk. I did it with my dd as well and her teeth are fine. Then as my dd got older (and I weaned her from breastfeeding) I actually began giving her her evening milk in a sippy in the bath. She loves it now and I just brush right after bath and then do lotion/stories/bed.
