I am getting very very frustrated! (Jack)
« on: April 29, 2008, 10:30:06 am »
Jack is 3 in one month and is in the process of dropping his nap..... He just will not go to sleep! This morning he has dark circles under his eyes, and big bags.  He slept 6:30 - 6:30 last few nights.... but no nap at all.  He ends up falling asleep for 10 mins in the car at 3pm when we all go out, so is obvious he is shattered!!!!  His behavious is so awful as the day goes on.... I have tried so hard to get him to sleep but he screams no, hits me etc etc and I cant try for long as him and dd share a room and she needs to have her own nap....

I just wondered if it is just something I am going to have to grit my teeth and power through or if theres anything I can do  ??? ??? ??? ???

I want my happy well rested son back. I am willing to put him to bed later so he can have a nap.  Just feeling fed up with it :(

Marking my place, i have the exact same problem with Jackson at the moment. He's 3 in 3months but a month ago he decided he didn't need naps anymore, and although he is fairly well behaved i've noticed towards 2.30-3pm he starts to get a bit 'shouty' for want of a better word and wont listen to me, he doesn't eat his dinner very well anymore b/c he is tired and i had a LOT of dietry problems with him when he was younger and he's only just started putting on weight! Short of strapping him to a bed i don't see what more i can do :-\

Emma... i obviously have no advise lol... sorry for hijacking... i seem to do this a lot :-\ xx

No no,feel free to lurk, and so so glad I am not alone, I have just had a little cry as all I want is for him to be happy and not a wreck :(  Gonna go make some bacon sandwiches to cheer myself up xxxx

oooh bacon sarnies :-P I'm on a diet still so salad for me :(

I know what you mean, i miss my little man who was so good that people would stop me in shops and comment on what a wonderful little boy he was b/c he was chatting away to me and not crying etc. I didn't have this problem with Mikey, he stopped napping at about 3 1/2 and he coped with it fine, Jackson is trying to do everything his brother does (or doesn't do in this case) so i have no hope for getting his naps back :(

We are just about coming through the other side of it - so I know what you are both going through now.

One thing that really helped us when there was complete nap refusal was a little quiet time after lunch. Here, the only way I can acheive that is to give him his drink of milk, snuggle under a blanket and stick the telly on. Not ideal, but it worked for us. He'd have about an hour just chilling out, recharging the batteries, and it would really help. In the early days, he'd even fall asleep ;), but it was important that I made clear to him I wasn't expecting him to go to sleep - we call it his 'little rest'.

We often still do it, and it really helps him get to his (now much earlier) bedtime, and it gives Mummy a little break too ;D
Caroline :)

Thanks Caroline, thats what I did today, quiet time, but put him in his bed, where he proceeded to shriek and laugh and bounce until it seemed he was gonna come through the roof lol!  His usual bedtime was 7-7:30, but now its 6:30 and hes out like a light, and all the way through the night, I should be happy with this but its just the behaviour problems that are hard when he is OT like today :( As you said, we will come outta the other side of this, and all will be well, gonna keep repeating "this soon shall pass" lol! Might try the quiet time together to watch somthing under a blanket, sounds lovely, but Im such a monica I am sure I would be thinking about what dishes needed washing!!! Thanks for the idea, gonna try it xxxxx

I do the same as Caroline, we have quiet time on the couch while Mummy comes on here!
