DS is a big refluxer that even with meds, he still struggles.  We have been usually Alimentum basically for the past 16 months.  He still has a bottle in the morning and one at bedtime.  He won't drink that disgusting Alimentum from his sippy cup, but amazingly he still takes it from the bottle.  I would love to get rid of his bottle eventually!

We had a skin patch test done today that showed no real food allergies.  However, his eczema and diapers are telling a different story.  He can't handle real milk and per his GI specialist we tried soy milk and his eczema flared up and he was absolutely miserable.   His allergist/immunologist said to maybe try rice milk.  DS suffers from severe constipation so I didn't know if this was a good choice either.  I am going to call his GI specialist tomorrow to check, but wanted your opinions as well.

I just don't know what to do.  Should I just continue the Alimentum for a couple more months and then just see what we can do?  Maybe then the reflux won't be as bad.   :-\

I was gonna say rice milk.  No clue how it would work with constipation though.

To be honest I would stick with the alimentum for a while longer. Rice milk can often be constipating so may not be a good choice for ds. I can't really blame your ds for only taking the alimentum from a bottle as it does taste terrible. I believe that children often take it from a bottle easier as it shoots it past most of the tase buds.

Kelly,
You're right!  Charlie's GI specialist said to stick with Alimentum until he's 2 and as long as he gets 10-14 ounces a day he'll be fine nutrition-wise.  She did all the calculations.  I guess it's just so strange for me because DS1 didn't have a bottle after 11.5 months, but every baby is different and I'll do whatever it takes to keep him healthy.

Thanks for your advice!

My lo will be 12 months old in June, I can't wait to stop the alimentum as it stinks like potatoes....you are asking a good question...what do we use?  Rice milk isn't good?

I don't know much about rice milk, but DS suffers for severe constipation so rice milk would be a bad option for us.
