RUBBING EYES & NOSE ONLY WHEN EATING....
« on: May 23, 2008, 05:50:59 am »
My DS started rubbing his eyes & nose immediately when I started him on rice cereal @ 6 months, right then I thought he may be allergic (to something), now I am noticing that he does this after he breastfeeds also; we are having problems with solids & I suspect he may be lactose intolerant......

It took this long to get my dr to refer me to a pedi & we're still not there.....

Just wondering if anyone dealing with allergies noticed this as a sign????

TIA

Mine has been sneezing (posted something yesterday on that!) and has occasionally rubbed her face; she kind of puckers on tasting the food (a reaction like if we bit into a lemon). The sneezing is what I thought may have been an allergy symptom but the face-rubbing I attributed to the funny feeling on her face when she reacted to the food cuz it happens once she gets a mouthful. But she doesn't typically do this on the breast. Have you tried a different cereal or mixing the cereal with cooled boiled water (I'm assuming you're mixing with breast milk?) I'm new to this too, but my two cents!

I've tried every cereal, even soy, he was eating it in the morn for awhile 3-4 tbs, but now, he refuses it entirely, opting for toast & cheerios instead, he has also had a wide variety of fruits, but now is refusing them as well.

I wonder if something in certain foods bothers him, OR when it gets to a point, has trouble with sinus during swallowing......it's a crap shoot!!

The fact that he does this after BF makes me think he's not just doing it for kicks.

I'll defer to some of the other experts, sorry for your troubles! Today after lunch during her nap my lo woke crying and was passing gas, maybe a stomach upset for your lo that makes him not want to eat? Good luck.

Wow, it never crossed my mind that there might be an allergy issue. I thought perhaps he was tired or his nose was itching. Would love to hear more on this.

Interesting.  Good to know it is not an allergy.
Wendy -

Zach - 3 1/2 yrs old. My sweet, loving, gentle boy that loves playing in the dirt!

Tyler - 17 months.  My very very spirited little boy.  Can't turn your back for a minute.  He is doing the cutest things now!  Loves to eat and climb!
