screaming during breastfeeding
« on: May 24, 2008, 23:01:34 pm »
Tonight as I was breastfeeding my son, he came off and screamed as bad as I've ever seen him scream. I can only compare it to when he's had his shots. I've gone dairy free, he's had only breastmilk for 3 days now, and I just don't know why he would have such an extreme reaction. It scared me, and now I'm worried to say the least. Anyone had this happen. Of course I've had him cry while breastfeeding before, since he has reflux, but this was pure screaming.

My son used to scream when I was breastfeeding and he had refkux aswell. I figured out that with his situation he was really really hungry and he wasn't getting enough milk fast enough with that particular feeding. I had a really fast letdown so he didnt have to work very hard at the begining and then he would have to suck harder as the feeding continued. So when he was really hungry and he wanted the milk fast he would SCREAM. Once he even started banging his head on and off my breast over and over. I figured out to just put him back on my breast and usually he would eat again and the yelling would stop.
Hope this helps!

Hi, I posted on the reflux thread also.

Could your lo be sick by chance?  I know strep throat is going around really bad here.  I am in the US - Virginia.

Mmmmmmm... I'm in NC. Wonder if he does have strep. I'll have to look up the symptoms. His sister had a slight rash on her torsoe this am.

My 2.5 yr old just got over it and the only symptom he had was not eating at all, oh yeah and throwing up.

But, he never ran a fever at all.

I would have him checked to be safe since he does not seem comfortable.
