Started Green Beans Now Up Several Times a Night
« on: June 04, 2008, 14:07:44 pm »
My dd is almost 6 months.  She has been an ok sleeper.  Half of the time she will sleep through the night, other times, she will wake up only once.  She has been eating cereal (rice, oatmeal, multi-grain) for six weeks, and we started green beans on Monday.  I pureed it myself.  I bought frozen, organic green beans, steamed them, then pureed.  Here is the problem....  She is waking up three to four times a night.  It is awful.  I heard that green beans cause gas, so we gave her Mylicon last night before bed, but she still woke up a few hours after being put down.  She has a bit of a diaper rash, but this could be a coincidence, and she is teething.  So, I am wondering, is it the green beans, something she is going through or the teething.  When she wakes up, she will yell then cry until someone goes in there, and she falls to sleep relatively quickly.  Oh, she has started to roll over in the middle of the night as well, so it could be that she is uncomfortable.  I have no idea.  Anyone have the same problems and have a solution or ideas or the cause.  I am at a loss.

Thanks!!!

Sounds like it could be any number of those things waking her up, which makes it hard to figure out what the problem is.  First, I would stop the green beans for a few days, see if the gas and diaper rash clear up.  They could be related to teething, but I think it's more likely from the green beans.  I think it's probably the gas or teething that's waking her up, not being uncomfortable from rolling over--I'm assuming you put her to sleep on her back and she's rolling on to her tummy.  Most babies sleep better on their tummies.  I suggest giving her a few days with no green beans or other new foods and see if things clear up and she starts sleeping better again.  Then try the green beans again.  If she gets gas and a rash again, then you'll know it's the green beans.  This may not offer much hope, but some babies just have a hard time adjusting to solids in general, not just one particular food.  My son had horrible gas from about 6-9 months that woke him up several times a night.  It didn't start with one particular food, he had been enjoying several different foods for a few weeks with no problems and the gas started suddenly without the introduction of something new.  It was rough, but he outgrew it.  Since your DD's troubles coincided with the introduction of green beans, that is most likely the culprit.  Good luck!

I gave my lo green beans one night for dinner and he was up 3-4 times that night, where he normally sleeps thru. I stopped giving it to him and he went back to sleeping thru.
Good luck,Tracey ;)
