Going INSANE.....
« on: June 05, 2008, 19:58:46 pm »
OH MY GOODNESS MY DS DOES NOT NAP!!!!! Seriously, Josh was up at 8:15 this morning and he didn't go to sleep until 12:30 this afternoon AFTER I finally just let him cry for 10 minutes. He just simply won't do it unless he is being held, or moving, like in the car seat, stroller, bjorn.... Do I just give in and do these sleep props just so he'll nap or do I do what I did today and finally just give up and let him CIO? Plus, he eats more often when he's like this because he gets hungry faster.... I am at my wits end!!!  :'(

loliac-
First of all, congrats to you on your new LO!  I am not an expert, but I believe that at Josh's age it is completely normal not to have regular naps.  My LO is 5.5 months now, but I felt like the first 6 weeks were complete chaos!  We just followed LOs cues and tried to encourage sleep, but I think at that young of an age they don't tend to sleep for very long at one time.  My advice is to let him sleep where ever he will right now.  I don't think that LOs get into bad habits that young.  I remember feeling like LO was never going to sleep and then suddenly he started falling into more of a routine, but for us it wasn't until about 2.5 months.  Before that we just followed his cues and let him sleep when he needed to.  I hope that I am not steering you wrong, but just remember each stage only lasts so long.  It will be over before you know it.  For now, just follow him!  He will tell you when he needs to sleep, eat etc.
best of luck!  Erica~~

Firstly, huge hugs and congratulations on the birth of your DS.  He is so little, he is just starting to get used to life 'on the outside'.  You may be aware that BW does not encourage any controlled crying or CIO.  For more on that, follow this link: https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=77626.0

Given the frequent eating and the not sleeping unless upright, it's possible that your LO has reflux.  Head on over to this link and see if anything else matches up https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=654.0  If so, your baby can be medicated to make him more comfortable and then he will sleep better.  Until reflux is under control, these babies can't be sleep trained because they are in such pain.

If that's not the case, you could try pat/shh to help him settle.  LOs at this age normally can only handle 60 minutes of A time including the feed, so he's likely very OT.  Is he swaddled?

We're committed to help you work through this, just PLEASE don't leave him to cry.  All it will do is teach him that you're not listening to his efforts at communication, you have to show him how to sleep and he'll eventually get there on his own!
