Dropping nap at 2-Please help!!
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:44:40 am »
hi everyone,

My DD will be 2 next week and for the last few weeks she will skip a nap at least twice a week.   I still offer her a nap everyday and will leave her in the cot for 1 1/2h before getting her if she doesn't go to sleep so she can at least have some quite time. She doesn't cry or anything like that but will just chat and play for the entire time  ;D. I have tried moving the nap later but that doesn't work either. She shows no signs of tiredness or grumpiness in the pm even if she didn't nap.  She sleeps very well at night doing 12h at least.  I don't won't to cut the night time as it works for her and us.  I have tried it but she is just grumpy for the rest of the day if I wake her less than 12h  ;).

Now my question is this not too young to drop the nap (and I still need that hour ;D).  She has been a textbook baby all long except for this!!!.  When do I know it's time to drop the nap?

Please help.  has this happened to anyone else?   :-* :-* :-* :-*

Hello my dear Elmarie :)

Didn't happen to us until 2.5 and hasn't yet happened with #2... but it can happen as early as 2 and its probably just a phase rather than her dropping the nap altogether. I would continue doing what you are doing... offer her nap/quiet time and put her down for the night earlier to allow for a 12hr nap. If you see a pattern where she is sleeping 12+hrs at night and nothing during the day and she can't handle w/o a nap then I would look at cutting night time sleep.

At around age 2, Isabella's total sleep dropped to around 12hrs in total and her A time was about 6hrs before nap. You could try taking her out in the morning and offering her plenty of play time/running around, etc.. so that she's tired enough and hopefully she will be tired enough for a nap. But at the end of the day its up to her... ;)

hth a little

Thanks Layla  :-* :-* :-*

I will keep on offering the nap.  Even today she was happy until bedtime with no signs of being OT, but I will monitor it closely.. ;D.  Mom's not ready to let the nap go.. :P

Elmarie,

Ciara slept during the day, most days until just before Callie arrived.  So she was 4.5 and still napping most days! Callie is a different story however.  I can't blame you for wanting to hold onto the nap :)
