Giving bf baby the occasional bottle?
« on: June 13, 2008, 13:10:24 pm »
I'd love to have the freedom to give my bf lo the occasional bottle... :)

She is 9 weeks. We have given her bottles of EBM sporadically - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I read the thread on how to introduce a bottle to bf babies, and am going to try out some of the tips. I saw that it is recommended to be consistent and try to give a bottle at least once a day when introducing it. Does that mean I'm always going to have to pump and give a bottle daily? Or just until she takes a bottle consistently? Will she "forget" how if I don't give a bottle often enough?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi!
Yes I think that once you start giving one, you should continue to as consistently as possible...  If you want your lo to not "forget" or not "refuse" sometime in the future, it's best to give it to her everyday.

Great Question I was wondering the same thing since I have to go into work a couple times in the upcoming months.  I want to breastfeed as much as possible, but when I have to go into work I want to be able to leave some bottles with my babysitter so she can feed Kara if she gets hungry.  Man I am going to have to try to learn how to express breastmilk.  I may just send formula since expressing is difficult for me, and way too time consuming when you have a preschooler running around.
