Night feeding help
« on: June 13, 2008, 14:32:47 pm »
My little one is 17 weeks and is still waking up once at night for a feed. The time she wakes varies between 2am and 4am, occasionally 5/5.30am. I find that if she wakes up at 4am or later then she isn't interested in her 7am bottle, at one point she fed at 4am and then only took 20ml at 7am but then went happily till her 10am feed. When she wakes up at this time now I try just to give enough to keep her happy so that she takes more for breakfast.
Over the past 3 weeks she has been on occasion waking up early and crying for her dreamfeed as much as 1/2 hour early, since this is supposed to just be a top up surely this shouldn't be happening.
She was on a 3 hour easy but then I started the 4 hour to see if that helped but it made no change. We are back on 3 hour again as the 3pm feed when she is most hungry was 9oz one afternoon.
I have tried to get more into her during the day but it is hopeless, when she is satisfied she refuses the bottle and spits out any more milk she is offered ending up in screaming when the bottle goes near her.
For the past three nights I have given her hungry baby food at bedtime but this has also not made any difference. HV said it may take 2-3 weeks to take effect, this seems strange to me.
I am back to work in 2 months time and desperately want her to be sleeping through by then or I will go insane.

Any thoughts or suggestions???

Hi there, does she have a DF? At this stage i would say its very normal to have a DF AND 1 nightfeed.  My dd had the DF  and one night feed up to 6/7 months, then we were able to drop the Nightfeed when solids were established. Sorry this isnt what you want to hear, but 1 nightfeed is the norm really for a while (unless you are VERY lucky lol) :)

Yes she does have a DF, but this is becoming a problem as she is starting to wake up and cry for it hence not making a DF anymore.

Hiya, you could try maybe cluster feeding in the evening if the df isnt working, but the 1 night feed will prob stay for a little while xx
