17 months old- AWAKE TIME?
« on: June 16, 2008, 00:45:31 am »
Hi, I need some reassurance....my 17 old month schedule is as follows:
Wake up 6-7
Nap 12.30  (varies)
Put her down 5.5 after she wakes up from nap.

I get confused as to WHEN to put her to bed.  So you go by a set time regardless of wake up time of nap or you go by awake time.
Is 6 hours awake too long at her age?

Is there like a "rule" kind of like the child should have a 12 hour day in total, for example if she wake up at 7, then bedtime would be around 7????

Siria, there are no rules as such. Every baby is different... how is she on the current routine? Do you have nightwakings or does she seem like she's not getting enough sleep?

If she's not waking up at night and she seems to handle 6hrs A time... then don't change the routine. Jasmine pretty much did 6hrs A time from around 17months or so. She wakes around 6am and her nap starts at 12pm. I put her down for the night about 5 or so hrs from the time she wakes from nap... sometimes she will play around and then fall asleep and sometimes she's asleep within 5-10mins.

She seems to be doing well.  No NW.  While learning to walk, was waking up early and short napping..but has returned to longer naps and waking up later.
Marianna can handle long awake times without showing any signs of tiredness.  It would take maybe 6.5 for her to show signs but then she would be OT.
I adjust the nap time according to wake up time since it varies.  Is that how you do it or you keep at 12 most of the times?
Sometimes I have put her down at 11 others at 12 and somes close to 1 due to wake up time.

I usually stick to 12pm unless she's mighty cranky or ill and in that case I put her down maybe 15mins earlier. If she wakes very very early (like around 5am or something.... thankfully very rare), then I put her down around 11-11.30 or so.

To be honest, I really don't know when it is that she wakes up :-[. I don't hear her when she wakes... she doesn't coo much in the morning... so I just assume she wakes around 6am, which is when her sister wakes up, comes out of her room and then wakes me up
