Helping 20 month old sleep better
« on: June 22, 2008, 05:30:45 am »
My daughter is almost 20 months now and i'm wondering if you can tell me when they start sleeping later in the mornings, is there anything I am able to do to help? I starting putting her to bed at 8 instead of 7 thinking that would help but it doesn't, is it something I can help or no?

Can you please post her routine (what time is the nap, how long,  and what time does she wake in the morning)

I don't have any solutions, just support as I know what it's like when they want to be up and you want to sleep. I had the same problem with my toddler for almost a year. He woke between 5 and 6 every morning no matter his bedtime (which was 7:30). He has only just started sleeping in (at 25 months) until 6:30 and 6:45 on some days now. I don't know why the change, maybe just more activity and one nap?

Good luck with your little girl.

She only has one nap a day and it goes from 11 till 1 or sometimes 2 depending on how early she wakes up.

She's probably waking early because her nap starts as early as 11am. If it were me, I would look at slowly pushing A time in the morning (add 15mins every couple of days) until her nap starts around noon and then putting her to bed no later than 5.5hrs A time from the time the nap ends. I don't think putting her to bed later without adjusting nap time will help. She might get overtired from the long A time before bed and that might cause even earlier wake ups,.

How early does she wake up?

Also, I probably wouldn't let her nap longer than 2hrs... sometimes too long of a nap cause cause early wake ups. How many hours does she sleep in a 24hr period?

She's usually up between 5 and 6 and her nap time is usually anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours long.

I would try pushing her nap out in like 15min incrememnts until its closer to 11.30-12pm... you might find that she will start waking a little later.
