easy and extending naps
« on: June 23, 2008, 07:32:56 am »
Help! I've started my daughter on easy today. I put her down at 8.30 for her first nap. She woke up 35 mins later and is now quite happily playing in her cot. Do I need to do pu/pd even if she's not crying to get her to go back to sleep? Do I wait until she starts crying? How does this work? HELP!!!!

hi
how old is your daughter?  what was her previous routine like  and how did she previously go to sleep for naps and bed?  independently or did you help or any AP?  any props?  can you post your routine and we'll take a look.

for pu/pd you do not do it if they're not crying.  it's a last resort.  if she wakes up and is not crying you can leave her in the crib and she may go back to sleep on her own (if she knows how to go to sleep independently that is).   if she cries then you would go in and do shhh pat and then pu/pd as a last resort if shh pat does not work.  pu/pd is only for babies older than 4 mo though - and the technique changes with age...not sure how old DD is?

how is everything?  Brenda asked some good questions and I agree that pu/pd shouldn't be done until crying.  have you tried shh/pat yet??  i you need some info on how to do it we can get it for you.

Hiya! I've got different posts all over the place! Things are starting to get a bit better. Yesterday as far as EASY went it was perfect but she had difficulty actually going to sleep and howled for 2 hours at bedtime. Today she's slept less (she was at creche this morning and only managed 15mins  but she did go to sleep alone) but bedtime was much more calm. It still took an hour and a half but she only needed help for the first 5 mins then i just sat by the side of the cot while she played, calmed down and fell asleep sucking her thumb (so glad we stopped the dummy 2 weks ago!). I'm feeling less desperated today!
