can 30 minute nap = UT instead of OT?
« on: July 16, 2008, 19:23:19 pm »
Yesterday I didn't know what time Zinnia woke up so I put her down too late for a nap and it resulted in a 30 minute OT nap.  This is what ended up happening:

YESTERDAY
first A time: unknown?
nap #1: 30 minutes
second A time: 2.5h
nap #2: 1.25h
third A time: 4h-ish
fell asleep for 30 minutes, then woke up and WOULD NOT sleep for 2 hours :( :( :( - seemed to think bedtime was a nap!!!
about 3 NWs during the night/early morning

TODAY
first A time: 2.75h  (I thought of giving her less b/c of her bad night, but previously she has been able to do her usual 3h despite NWs)
nap #1: 30 minutes
second A time: 2.75h
nap #2: 1.25h

So....could she have been UT for that first nap?  Normally she does A times of 3h and sleep for about 1.5h morning and 2h afternoon.

Tonight I'm keeping bedtime normal time instead of moving it up like I did yesterday.  Also I am thinking of keeping A times the same despite NWs (she's had NWs for the past 3-4 weeks but can still do the 3h A times).

Any suggestions?  thanks! :)

it's possible i guess, although usually 30 min naps mean OT...

but around this age some babies are going to switch to 1 long nap and 1 short nap as they gear up for the 2 to 1 switch - she's still a bit young for this but maybe that's it?? at about 9 mo we had wonky naps and EW...so maybe it's just a phase?  i would be more concerned about the NWs personally...but i need my sleep ;)

brenda, I'm concerned about the NWs too, but they've been going on for the past month while she was still having good day sleep.  Now her day sleep is crappy too. :(  But that just happened in the last 2 days.  We did just get back from vacation at my parents' where she would not sleep independently, still had good naps, but horrible NWs b/c she was kept up too late by family functions.

Can you tell me about your wonky naps at 9 months?  What do you mean by wonky? :)

well, give her a few days to adjust to being home.  it's always tough after holidays because they're thrown off with a new routine and more stimulation etc.  for us it takes about 2 weeks to get back on track after holidays.

wonky naps...she had EWs (5 am) and really fought the naps like crazy. it seemed she could stay awake forever.  i could finally get her down (sometimes with AP) and she would sleep but sometimes the 2nd nap was so late in the dya by the time she'd go down that i'd have to limit it to 20 min so she'd go to bed at a decent time.
