squirmy during feed
« on: July 18, 2008, 15:54:27 pm »
New poster to this board.  Question for those who can help.  My DD (2 months on Sunday) will squirm and seem to fight sometimes when we bottlefeed her.  Could it be an issue with the nipple(too slow of the flow---we are using the slow flow).  She will arch her back and flail arms....and pull away.  So, I stop, and then she cries, we start to feed again...and she is happy.  Don't know why---doesn't happe all of the time ( seems to happen early in the morning and her late afternoon feeds).  Thanks for your help!

Definitely worth trying a faster flow teat.  Sounds like your lo is getting frustrated cause the milk is not coming out fast enough.

The ages on the teats are just guidelines, and it all depends on how your lo copes with them.  We went to the Med flow teat at around 6 weeks, and was on the fast flow teat by about 3.5 months.  It all depends on your lo.

Give it a try and let us know how you get on.

Hmm, yeh, could be teat. My dd was on slow flow, I bought her medium flow and sometimes she'll do the same. She'll get frustrated and choke and push it out of her mouth with her tongue. I changed it back to slow flow and she'd be ok. But the problem is I think she swallows lots of air from trying so hard to suck lol. In the mornings I dont know why she could be doing it, but at nite I would say they are tired, irritable etc after the day. Also, during all the struggling might be swallowing air, so its worth trying to burp her, even if it seems she didnt drink anything yet.
