can anyone help?
« on: August 01, 2008, 18:36:20 pm »
my lo is in a growth spurt and eating like mad.  she is on a 3 hour EASY schedule.  the problem is that she's a slow eater.  so, by the time she eats, has a short awake time (15-30 minutes) and she starts showing tired signs, she's hungry again. i find myself swaddling her, winding her down and getting ready to put her down but then she needs to eat again.  then, she gets so OT that she falls asleep at the breast and it doesn't seems right to do more awake time.  so i've been putting her down... i just don't want her to get accustomed to falling asleep at the breast every time.  but it seems important to get her down for her naps as close to on time as i can.  can anyone help?  i don't know how to prioritize here - sleep/eating.......
i'd appreciate it as this is the first noticeable growth spurt and i'm all confused.

Is she getting a full feed each time or is she just snacking?

she is getting full feeds when she wakes up (about 20-30 minutes).  then, after her awake time, i've been giving her another 10 minutes or so.  it seems like she's eating so much but i can see her plumping out, which is fine b/c she's been smaller (25th percentile). how long do growth spurts typically last?
thanks for responding...my post had been up a couple days w/o a response and i was looking forward to hearing from somebody...this is norah's first really noticeable growth sprurt and it's throwing me for a loop.

A few days to a week, but usually no more than a week.

I'd just keep trying to get as much into her as possible, all while trying not to cause any 'bad' habits.
However, it should be over soon and you can always break any habits they may have formed.
