couple of questions...
« on: August 05, 2008, 10:20:49 am »
I've just switched ds to formula and have some q's...

1.  He's 15weeks old, weighs 6kgs and is having between 26-30oz of formula every 24hours (around 780ml).  Does that sound right?

2.  I've always had issues trying to dream feed.  Most of the time he wakes up somewhere between 10-11pm and again about 3am.  However, this has been changing lately, sometimes he'll go right through from 10pm to 7am and sometimes he won't wake at all until 1/2am.  He's even done a few nights of 7pm - 7am with no feed.  I have tried to df since he was born if he hadn't woken up but often he won't feed properly (when bf) or finish (on bottle), he tends to wake up every time i do it and then takes longer to settle.  Should I just give up trying and let him wake when he's hungry?

3.  He seems a bit constipated, does this happen with formula and should I be worried?  Is there anything I can do about it?

All advice appreciated, thanks.

How often are you feeding?
What time are you doing the last feed for the night?

Some los dont take to the DF, and do better with a large bedtime bottle and then just see how long they sleep. How much does he take at DF and Night feed?  Does he take a good morning bottle

It does sometimes happen with formula, and a little cooled boiled water (like couple of ozs), can help things along.  Does he pass hard stools then or is it that they are infrequent but soft? Does he struggle to pass them

A DF and a night feed is about right for this age, but as Natasha said, if you can write down feed times and amounts, we can see whats going on :)

feeding times vary a bit but generally they are:
7:30am - 150ml/5oz
10:30/11am - 150ml/5oz
2:30/3pm - 150ml/5oz
6:30pm - 150ml/5oz
Now he usually wakes up sometime between 10-11pm - 180mL/6oz
and around 3/4am - 120mL/4oz
He usually finishes every bottle.  Not sure if I should go up to 180mL/6oz for all his day bottles to see if this eliminates the 3am feed?

Okay I've upped him to 180mL/6oz for all his bottles.  He's done two nights where he slept 7pm-4am with no feed and one night he woke at 10pm and 2am.  Am I better off leaving him sleep from 7pm and wait and see when he wakes or should I persist with trying to dream feed?
