Sippy Cup Help!
« on: August 12, 2008, 23:21:54 pm »
My Ds is 8 1/2 months old. I started to introduce the sippy cup at 6 months with watered down apple juice or just plain water, but he still does not drink from it. I haven't been completely consistent. I try it one day during a meal and when it doesn't work, I just wait a few more days and try again. But that's been over two months of this. I've tried faster flow cups for older kids but that ends up being a mess. He is more interested in chewing on the handles or spouts instead of drinking.

Should I try putting his milk in one during a feeding and hold it for him like a bottle? I know they say they shouldn't be taking any bottles past 12 months. Any advice?

With Connor I used every cup under the sun and he wouldnt drink from them, so I let him have his bottle because I couldnt fight with him anymore as it wasnt doing us any good.

He was 18 months when he finally drank from a cup and never returned to the bottle.

With my ds I started trying the cup with him when he was about 5 months and like you I would just try it every few days. He eventually started drinking out of it himself when he was roughly 9 months. He will drink milk out of it but not enough before he starts to get bored so he still has a bottle when he wakes up and before he goes to bed. He will only drink 3-4oz out of a cup but will drink 10oz from each bottle, so I don't feel ready to completely move away from bottles yet  :-\.

Just keep trying with the cup and he will get it soon. They all do these things in their own time  ;)
