What is she trying to tell me? I need your opinions please.
« on: August 21, 2008, 19:35:54 pm »
She is a great night sleeper... from 7.30 till 6.30 or 7
She naps am for 1 hour to 1 1/4 hour
PM nap is for 1/2 hour
But in the last week she has been waking up from her am nap after 30 min, she goes waaaaa and sometimes she carries on sleeping for another 30 min other times she just does not want to sleep, I go to her room and she is happy again.
Now in the pm nap she is been doin 30 min for ages, now sometimes she is sleeping for longer, but i wake her up beforeat 4.30 pm so it does not conflict with bedtime.
Her night sleep does not change if she has 30 min am and pm... 1h am, 30 min pm, or 30 am and 45 pm
She goes for naps very easily, awake and settles alone. She is great.
I just wondered if I should be doing something else.

soon we'll be travelling to Lima Peru and I am bit scared of the time changes!!! thanks for reading my post and replying

If she does not appear OT or has not started waking in the night then I think what you are doing is working for her. My son used to have quite short naps and I too had to wake him up by a certain time to ensure he slept ok overnight.

Re travelling, I have yet to go abroad so perhaps someone who has been abroad can help put your mind at rest!

she's over a year right?  She may be trying to tell you that she's ready for the 2 to 1 nap transition....check out these links:

I'm also going to move this over to Toddler Sleep, as that's where we try to keep all the posts of bubs over 1 year.  If I've misread your ticker, let me know, I'll move it back :)

I have had probs with PC! hate this stuff. Back now.
Yes she is 12.5 months now. She is really lasting longer and longer am and i put her to bed at 4 hour mark since she wakes up. But I am sure she could carry on if I let her. It's only when I start doing the nap routine that she get in the mood for nap.
For example if she goesto sleep at 11 she wakes at 12 or 12.15 has lunch and does not go to sleep again till 4! but I am scared of letting her carry on till later than 4.30, is this ok?
I guess she'll drop the pm nap just like she did at 6 month with her at nap ?
Thanks for your help.
I'll post about my longhaul flight soon in another page. Thanks

Sounds fine to me and very similar to Ryan at around the same age.

If I let him sleep past 4.30 I had all sorts of problems with bedtime.  I think you will find she will start to sleep a bit longer for her am/pm nap and eventually drop the afternoon one. I found that Ryan could go till about 12.30/1pm and then sleep up to 2.30 once he was down to 1 nap. That is when he slept the best too.

Yep once he was sleeping till 2.30 I gave him lunch around 12, all ready for getting into bed/cot for 12.30ish.

A snack would be around 10ish I would guess.

I will try to push her am nap a bit per week but do you think I should wait until I come back from my holidays in Lima? Travelling from UK, staying a my mum's for 3 weeks on the 8th of October? thanks

Mmmm the holiday could muck you up but I have always taken Ryan back to my folks every 4 weekish and kept his routine pretty much the same. That said not taken him abroad so thats a different factor!

I think it really depends on your lo to be honest. Try and see when she is getting tired in the am, if not till 12 say, give her lunch at 11.30 and if she sleeps for a long time you may only need a short cap nap in the afternoon if anything at all. Ryan just started to really fight me in the PM that I realised he no longer needed it so that was my cue!

You aren't going till October so should have plenty of time to do the transition I would have thought, but go with your instincts, they are all different, I can only share what worked for me!

thanks. I do think that she is ready for bed not later than 11.15! and only sleeps for 1 hour. So still needs her pm cat nap of 30min at 4pm.
Pusing her to 12 might be too much. I will se how she gets on before we travel. I hope we get on ok. I guess if I get night wakings or early waking then i will have to change our routine.
Thanks for your advice.
