Standing in crib at bedtime.
« on: August 21, 2008, 23:43:10 pm »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has advice on putting our almost 1 year old to bed.
When I lay him in his crib, he immediately starts to laugh and pulls himself up to sitting. He then bounces around and will pull up to standing. The problem is that he gets stuck standing or will fall over (he's not walking yet) and land at a weird angle twisting his arm, sending him into a flood of tears.

I am thinking that I go in and do PD only, much in the the same way we used to use PU/PD? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!
 :)

when dd was doing this, i would go in put her down and say "it's time to go to sleep" and walk out immediately.  then the next time I would go in, I wouldn't say anything, I'd just put her back down.  I actually did this several times on a couple of nights, but she got the hint pretty fast.  (I will add that I did let her cry in between times a little bit--not too much, just a little bit)

Thanks, i'll give that a shot tonight. On the plus side, I heard my LO wake this morning and he sat and played for a while. When I went in, he was sitting up talking to his stuffed animals, which gave me an extra 15 minutes to get ready.  :)

I agree with stacy. that's a great point and a very important one, too.  when dd was doing this in her crib, she was crying as well.  I still never go in unless it's an out and out cry (and even that I'll wait a while to make sure she won't put herself to sleep)
