Scared of the dark??
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:50:37 am »
Some of you may remember the problems we were having with Max at bedtime and with NW, well it now been about 9 weeks of NW and not being able to leave him at bedtime. I am beginning to think that it is habit that he wakes although its not at the same time so can't do W2S which has worked brilliantly in the past. I do wonder if he is developing a fear of the dark, last night he asked for the light to be put on and when he comes through to us I can here him run like he's running for his life through the dark playroom (he has 2 rooms with a bedroom off the playroom). He has a night light but is there anything I can do to help if it is a fear of the dark?

I gave Harry a torch, I played him during the day under my bedcovers and showed him how he could stop the dark with his torch.

He woke up one night and he was so so scared, I have never seen him so scared actually.

I think knowing that he had the 'power' I guess to stop the dark, was what he needed and the night wakings stopped.

hugs

We have one of those combination Thomas the Tank NightLight/Torch things and also we got a 'bug' shaped light from Ikea which we have attached to the back of his bed so that he can turn it on if he needs to.
