Hello, im hoping someone can give me a little bit of advice..

My DS has just turned 16 months and discovered the joys of climbing.. His cot is now on the lowest setting but he has discovered that if he holds onto the top bar, he can walk up the wall and climb over!  Does this mean time for a big bed??

my biggest concern is our 3yr DS who quite likes to run into his room first thing in the morning,...  ummm... our 3yr old was put into a big bed when he just turned two but he showed no interest in climbing out of his cot and he spoke really well and we were able to talk to him about a big boys bed..

What should i do?  keep him in a cot for now or make the transition??

Many thanks

fran :-)

I would try and keep him in his cot as long as possible if it were me. Anyway you could put him in a sleeping bag to stop him from being able to climb as well? This has worked with my ds, he started trying to climb out about 2months ago so we put him back into his sleeping bag and he hasn't done it since (thankfully) ;D

I lowered the cot DIY style.  It helped and she grew out of trying to do it eventually.  She wasn't ready for a bed so I didn't want to move her.  I also put a quilt on the floor incase her attempts were successful but when she realised that she wasn't able to do it after we lowered the base she gave up and went to sleep!

We did what Mari did when dd can get out of her crib at around 17 mos but by 18 mos we decided to make her crib into a day bed.  I was so nervous but it turned out well.  She didn't try to get out of the bed until a month later but we just walk her back in.  It took a few weeks and she stopped doing it.  Even now she rarely gets out of her bed.  BTW, dd slept better in it than her crib.  DS on the other hand is going to be in his crib until he's 5yo.  Already he knows how to open the botton drawer to use as a step to reach the top of the dresser.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Like Mimi, we converted DS's crib into a day bed around 17 months.  It actually worked out very well with very little problems.  He started sleeping even better for naps and bedtime.  Almost like he enjoyed the "independence".  if that makes any sense?!?!?

Good luck! :)
